In 2002, the bachelor program ofPublic Administration was establishedandenrolled undergraduates. In 2003,thepostgraduate programs in Public Administration wereapproved. In July 2006, the School of Government was established and the Department of Public Administration was set up. In December 2019, it was honored as one of the National First-Class Undergraduate Majors.

Over the past decades, along with the promotion of administrative system reform and the modernization of the national governance system, all colleagues in the department have been actively exploring innovative paths of national and local governance based on China's practical problems, andmaking the discipline of Public Administration better serve the modernization of China's national governance.

The Department of Public Administration currently has8 professors,7 associate professors and 3 lecturers, all of whom hold doctorate degrees. The faculty of the department has a reasonable age structure, a novel knowledge structure and a high level of internationalization. The whole department has formed a young, energetic and innovative academic team, as well as a teaching system that combines the international frontier theory with the Chinese administrative practice, to cultivate multi-level and high-quality administrative talents who are both knowledgeable in administrative science, management science, law and economics, and suitable for the needs of China's transformation and development.

Relying on the academic advantages of economics andmanagement of Central University of Finance and Economics, the Department of Public Administration has formed distinct research characteristics and disciplinary advantages in the aspects of government strategy and performanceevaluation, public policy and government budget, local government governance and inter-governmental relations. The faculty of the department has presided over more than 10 national programs such as Major Programs and Key Programs supported by the National Social Science Foundation, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. They have also published more than 30 monographs and more than 500 academic papers. Many of their outstanding achievements have won the Higher Institution of the Ministry of Education Excellence Research Award and the Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Research Excellence Award.

The Department of Public Administration focuses on cultivating modern Public Administration talents with financial and economic characteristics. So far, it has cultivated more than 1,000 graduates, widely distributed in the Party and government organizations, Government-affiliated institutions, State-owned and central enterprises, financial institutions, consulting companies and other industries. In recent years, more than 50% of graduates have gone to well-known universities and institutions at home and abroad for further study, such asthe University of Southern California, the University of Michigan, the National University of Singapore, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Renmin University of China andetc.
